March is Animal Aid's Veggie Month

How are y'all?

No this is not the U.S.A. but I have been watching soooo much T.V from America recently that I can't help myself! Don't worry though this doesn't mean that I haven't been doing as much for the animals as possible, namely organising a veggie month giveaway at Lush in the North of our fine country www.lush.co.uk

Lush have stores (or shops as we say in the U.K) in so many towns and cities throughout Great Britain and they have given their full support to Animal Aid's veggie month or as it has been re-named, 'Meat-Free Month', same message, same website address just a different name!

Check out your local Lush or better still organise a giveaway. If you haven't got one in your town a stall would be great or leaflet house-to-house, put posters up in your local library, write a letter to your local paper JUST DO SOMETHING!!

March may nearly be over but the pain and suffering for the millions of animals out there continues. Next month is World Month for Animals in Laboratories more about that soon, so keep checking this blog for more details or go to:

Fri 27th Feb - There's a national demo in London against Huntingdon Life Sciences. We will not be arranging transport but it's important to encourage the big investors to pull out of HLS so get in touch if you're planning on going or make your own way!

The Great British Circus is coming to Newark from fri 27th Feb to sun 8th March. They have African and Asian elephants, the only white tiger in any British circus, Lions, Tigers, Horses, Ponies, Llamas, Reindeer, Camels and Zebras. (That's taken from their website!) The show times are Weekdays: 5.00PM & 7.30PM, Sats: 2.00PM & 5.00PM and Suns: 3.00PM ONLY. Please visit www.captiveanimals.org for more information about animal circuses.

Circus Demo: For those not going to the national demo, we will be demoing the opening night of the circus. Meet at waitrose, 5.30pm. Please get in touch if you want a lift.
Sat 28th Feb – Sheffield Fur demos. Starting at Cruise, Chapelwalk at 11am.

Sun 1st March – There will be a NARC (Northern Animal Rights Coalition) meeting is in Leeds. There should be a car going but it will be held in the city centre, and so will be easy to get to by train or coach. More details to follow.

Circus Demo: We will also be doing another circus demo on 1st March. The showing is at 3pm so we'll be meeting at waitrose at 1pm. Please get in touch if you want to come!
Thurs 5th March- We will be having our next Social, this time at Cubana, on Trippet Lane (behind West Street). Please confirm by email and then we'll book a table (so please confirm at least a week before!). Come for yummy vegan food and great company

Fri 6th March- Another circus demo in Newark. We will be meeting (and leaving) at waitrose at 5.30pm. Again, please get in touch.

Sat 7th March-We will be demoing both circus performances today, which start at 2pm and 5pm. We will be leaving waitrose at 12 o'clock.

National Demos in Early March Thurs 5th-Sun 8th March - There will be national demos in Birmingham against CRUFTS. There will be a national demo against the Oxford Primate Lab during the ceremony!

A few more things... To our knowledge, there are no more places selling foie gras in Sheffield. However, there are possible foie gras sellers in other parts of south yorkshire. In particular, there are 2 places in Baslow (which is nearby). If they are selling it we will start demoing them soon. More details to follow.

Hunt Sabbing – there was a hunt saboteurs tactics meeting in Nottingham last saturday, which proved to be very useful. People are going out every saturday and during the week too but there are still not many people going from Sheffield. If you want to get involved or find out more then please get in touch!!

And finally, our Next meeting will be on Monday 2nd March at 6.30pm in the Fat Cat pub on Alma Street. They do a yummy, cheap vegan curry 8pm-10pm (around £2.75) so come along and fill your belly!

Doris Banham Dog Rescue is a dedicated charity, saving hundreds of dogs every month from being destroyed by the pound. The charity relies on donations and volunteers to transport the dogs from the pound to foster homes and kennels until they can find a new home. There will be a stall on the Moor next month to raise money for Doris Banham Dog Rescue. Please get in touch if you can help, even if you can just spare an hour!

Saturday 7th March (2 weeks time), the Moor, 10.30am-4.30pm.
There will also be a stall on Saturday 11th April on Fargate, 10.30am-4.30pm.
